Empties Reviews: disappointments & holy grails

Since moving to Nashville with an embarrassingly large stash of bath and beauty products, I’ve really tried to focus on using things up. It’s been hard, because I really like to try new things and I always feel like I need to stock up during the Bath and Body Works sale, but I’ve put a fairly sizeable dent in the collection. While cleaning out my shower, I thought I’d do an empties post of some products that were sitting around that I recently used up!

The Body Shop Hemp Body Butter This is a holy grail product for me. I used to have horribly ugly and painful dry feet – most of it was that I was walking around for years severely dehydrated and having no idea, but even when I do drink the appropriate amount of water, my heels get really dry. This body butter is the thickest and most hydrating (without being greasy) that I have found – slather it on your feet, throw on some cozy socks, and it feels great. It’s also really good for any other dry, patchy skin, and I love the light scent. Repurchase? Yes, repeatedly

Suave Keratin Infusion Conditioner This is not my favorite Suave conditioner, but it got the job done. I much prefer the Moroccan infusion formula, but I think they were out when I picked this up. I have a few more bottles of this in the stockpile that will get used, but I’m switching off and on between this and a different conditioner as well to keep my hair shiny. The perk of this one is that it’s great for colored hair, so I tend to use it much more right after a touch up. Repurchase? Probably not, but the stockpile will get used

Yes to Cucumbers Shower Gel This was a “meh” product for me. Shower gel is shower gel, it’s hard to go wrong. The scent was fine, it did its job. I also recently finished the Yes to Grapefruit Body Scrub and felt the same way, it’s just whatever. I think I like the other Yes To products more. Repurchase? I like to use different shower gels unless I find a scent I really really love, so no

Jhirmack Silver Plus Purple Shampoo I like to use a purple shampoo once a week to keep my hair as blonde as it gets. I really like Jhirmack products and this was a drugstore impulse buy, but I was pretty happy with it! Repurchase? Yes

LusterNow toothpaste I really like this stuff. It’s a little expensive, but it does really work, so it’s nice to have on hand if there’s an occasion I want to have white teeth for. Repurchase? Yep

EOS Shave Cream There is still some of this in my stockpile, but I really don’t like it. Well – that’s not true. I really like the product because it’s more moisturizing than other shave gels I’ve used, but the packaging is just awful. Every time I finish a bottle of it, I’m certain there’s much more product at the bottom, but because of the thickness it’s hard to get out. Repurchase? If they repackaged this, it would be a definite repurchase for me, but otherwise, I feel like it’s a waste of money.

St. Ives Apricot Blemish Scrub HOLY GRAIL! I love St. Ives scrubs. I’ve used this for years, and it just keeps getting better. The scent, the scrub, everything about it is really great. Repurchase? Yep, over and over

Bath & Body Works Wild Iris & Lavender Sugar Scrub I think the fact that I cut this open to get all the product out is a testament to how much I loved this. I got it at the semi-annual sale last year for something like $3, and I regret not buying more. The formula of this was much better than the scent, but just like everything else I love from Bath & Body Works, they’ve discontinued it.

Fekkai Blowout Dry Shampoo This is a holy grail for me. It doesn’t leave the white, powdery mist that some dry shampoos leave, but I’ve found that it makes my hair feel and smell freshly washed but still leaves the grease and oil to give style great hold. Repurchase? Probably not since it is so expensive (and also I have about six other bottles sitting in the closet)

Simple Exfoliating Facial Wipes I use face wipes at the end of every day to wipe off my makeup. I thought I would like the exfoliation in these, but it was more scratchy than comfortable. Repurchase? Probably not

Boscia Charcoal Mask The first snail mask I used last year was life changing, and I like to do them every couple of months now. This one was $8 at Sephora, and it was only okay. Repurchase? Maybe eventually, but I like to try different ones

NEXXUS Frizz Defy Another “meh” product. It’s shampoo. I didn’t notice it reducing frizz, but I was using it sporadically with some other shampoos as well. Repurchase? No

Secret Clear Gel Deodorant This is my favorite kind of deodorant. It lasts forever (I had this one for a little over a year and used it every day, it was like the never-ending deodorant.) It works SUPER well, dries clear quickly (so it’s great for when you wear a lot of black) and the Summerberry scent is really great. Repurchase? Yep yep yep

What are your holy grail beauty products?
