I have been struggling lately with feeling like a sloth around 3:00 every day. Despite that stereotype, I’ve never felt it before the last few months. When I was offered a chance to try one of Vega’s new Vega Sport products, I knew exactly what I wanted to try – the Vega Sport Energy Bars. They’re touted to “give your muscles the fast-acting, long-lasting whole food energy they need to endure. Moist and delicious, plant-based Vega Sport Energy Bar is easy to eat mid-workout to help you go the distance.”

20140520-084100.jpgInstead of eating during workouts, I nosh on mine when I hit the afternoon lag. Since being sleepy makes me not want to hit the gym, instead I snack on one of these to #FuelYourBetter. The Vega Sport Energy Bar flavor I got is Chocolate Coconut Almond and it is sooooo good. The bars are really moist and tasty (not dry at all like some bars can be.) Because they are so light, I think they would make a perfect long run or ride snack. It served as my breakfast before my last race, and I didn’t feel hungry or tired throughout.

I can definitely feel a difference in my energy levels after I eat the bars. They help me wake up and give me sustained energy throughout my post-work gym session.

The only thing I don’t like about them is the sugar content: each bar has 19 grams of sugars. I understand that that’s where the “energy” comes from, but I feel like I have to plan the rest of my food day around eating these.

What do you use to fuel up for gym sessions? Have you tried anything from the Vega Sport line?

I was selected to participate in this program as a member of SweatPink. I received the product for review, but all opinions are my own.
