I’ve been doing a lot of reading about running and I picked a plan a few weeks ago to use in training for my first half. I really don’t care very much about my time, I just want to finish, so I’m not focused on anything beyond that. The one I ended up choosing was in an episode of Self (with my girl Ke$ha on the cover!) And I like it because it’s not boring – it’s not all running all the time, but there’s a lot more strength training than I really care for. Here’s a shot of my plan:
I’m really liking it! Everything is written neatly(?) in my planner and I’m slowly going through and adding it to my Google Calendar. We’ll see if I’m still liking it in a few weeks when the long runs come… I’m also working hard to keep injury-free. The sports massage I had about a month ago did wonders on my hip and I haven’t had pain since! It’s been great. I’m working hard to do strength training workouts but honestly – I hate them. If I don’t get up and go to BodyPUMP, they pretty much don’t get done. I try to do other crosstraining if I don’t go, but… I have excuses. They happen. I’m also very all or nothing, so “rest days” don’t really work for me. If I take one, I probably take two or three in a row. I’m working on it.
I’ve also made other adjustments because I added some races to my schedule! This week I did a mile race in my city which was great. It was a Wednesday night after work and featured a family division, so I headed out to watch the start of that at 6:30. It was beautiful, sunny – and as we began to line up, the race director told us that a storm was rolling in and he was going to take cover for a little while. We stood under an overhang but nothing came, so a little past 7 (the scheduled start time) we began to line up under thick skies. As soon as we assembled, the lightning cracked and hit next the parking lot where we lined up. Back onto the patio we went, and I ran the race in the rain – the first time I’d ever run in the rain. I’m still working on pacing, and given the weather and that I didn’t have my music going, I feel pretty good about how I did. I think I could have kicked it into gear a little more at the end, but I’m pleased with my 11:40!
(Plus, the shirts were really cute.)
Another adjustment is coming on a day I have a 9-mile long run scheduled because… drum roll I’m running Color Me Rad in Richmond as a Color Me Rad ambassador!
I’m super excited because I have never done a color run, missing out on three so far that I’ve intended to do. If you’re in the area, sign up to run on my team, The Bluth Company! No matter where you are, use the discount code radfun on July 29 and 30 to save 20% on registration.
How is your training going? Have you done any color runs? What should I expect?!
