Style, Work Out

Fashion Friday: My Workout Clothes Haul {& Where-To!}

Cute workout clothes were one of the things that motivated me to get into the gym, and cute running gear continues to be my reward for faithful workouts! When I Google search “cute workout clothes,” I either get websites like lululemon or MPG or articles from Runner’s World of girls saying that “if you want to look cute, you don’t want to be fit.” On the flipside, searching for “affordable workout clothes” yields lots of boring gear that looks like it’s probably not the most comfortable. It is really hard to find cute stuff on a budget (I’m forever jealous of Fitfluential ambassadors for the things they get comped) so there are some stores I always make sure to hit. Last weekend I headed out to a few of them, including Dick’s and TJ Maxx. Here’s a quick look at what I picked up:

Fashion Friday: cute & affordable workout clothes

Under Armour Heatgear Touch 2.5″ Shorty – I’m returning these, but they are very comfy, and would probably be great for strength training or class days. I picked them up at Dick’s on sale from $27.99 to $19.99. (I still just really want these Studiolux leggings.)

Reebok Power Mesh sports bra – I’m constantly looking for my next favorite sports bra since my current fave is getting too big and C9 doesn’t make it anymore. I like this one because it has UV protection in it, doesn’t feel like it will chafe, and I love the colors because it reminds me of Animal from The Muppets – if I can ever get myself together enough for a runDisney event, maybe I will dress as him! 🙂 This was originally $35, clearanced out to $13.93.

Nike Sweet Tee t-shirt – I had a coupon for my gym’s logo shop, and I fell in love with these as soon as they came in this spring. It’s pretty sheer, but I like to wear it to Zumba and BodyStep classes.

CDM Foam Roller – I picked this guy up at TJ Maxx on clearance for $10. I had been stashing away Amazon gift cards for a textured roller, but this was a good deal and I needed one at home like, now, since my IT band has been so bad lately.

MarikaTek tank – I’m obsessed with these shirts. They are comfy, move with you, and most importantly for me, they’re long. TJ Maxx by me always has these for $10 or $12. I like the ones with the elastic ruching because I feel like they are the most wicking, but all the styles are cute – just make sure you try them on because the fit can be different.

Nike Stay Cool Dri-fit tank – this is probably my favorite score of this haul. I love Nike shirts because of the headphone jacks many of them feature, but this one also has a zipped pocket in it. It’s big enough for a house key, iPod shuffle, and a couple bucks. Originally $42, I picked it up at TJ Maxx for only $13!

Aside from the Dick’s clearance rack and TJ Maxx/Marshall’s, here are my other favorites to browse at!

  • Old Navy – they run great sales and coupons all the time, and one of my favorite pair of running capris comes from them as well.
  • Amazon – I use my Swagbucks to stockpile Amazon giftcards, and I’ve started to redeem them for fitness-y type things. Currently in my checkout is this Gaiam textured foam roller, and I’m one gift card away from being able to purchase (so sign up using my link and help me get there! 🙂) The yoga mat, block, and strap pictured above are from Amazon, part of the Gaiam Yoga for Beginners kit, and I’ve also picked up a resistance band to help strengthen my poor hip. They have some clothes and tons of shoes, so if there’s something you can’t find in your size elsewhere, give them a try.
  • 6pm/Zappos – I am pretty sure that these are owned by the same company and that 6pm is the “outlet” site for Zappos, but I’m not 100% sure. Both sites feature the same brands including plus sizes! (Search for both “plus size” and “extended”, because both sites use both terms.) I was elated when I saw that, even though I’m strictly in straight sizes now. They have Brooks, Under Armour, Nike, and New Balance, among others, including shoes. Check 6pm first and use eBates to get cash back for any purchase with them.
  • Gap/Athleta – I’ve gotten some great deals on clearance workout gear in Gap stores, including a recent haul of workout shorts, gFast capris, and two great tops for under $40! Pair coupons for additional discounts. Both Gap and Athleta have what they consider “plus” sizes, going up to XXL. Many of their tops are particularly roomy, and the gDance pants are generously sized, making them great affordable (and cute!) options for big girls.

Where do you find adorable & affordable workout clothes (or are you of the mindset that “it all gets sweaty the same, so who cares?”)?
